"Why are you going there? Aren't you afraid?". Hannelore Schön visits jail again and again. Voluntarily. The pensioner accompanies inmates on a voluntary basis, including a former prisoner with a "life sentence". Adrian Gansfort is urgently looking for an apartment and a new non-criminal community for a bank robber and drug courier who has been punished several times - for the time after prison.
Both helpers support the "Black Cross." This Christian prisoner aid organization has stood for reconciliation for almost a hundred years.
What motivates people to stand up for prisoners and those released from prison, including murderers and felons? Hannelore Schön says: "I do good things for people and that makes me happy. And when you're happy, you're free."
The report tells of committed Christians who build bridges "from inside to outside" in their free time. Every person has a right to a second chance, they say. "At the same time, we want to prevent new crimes," adds Adrian Gansfort.
