In a bleak future, eating body parts is the greatest pleasure of the ruling class. One inconspicuous-looking, butter-tender piece of meat in particular promises ecstatic pleasures: the uvula. When Margaret O'Pearl, obsessed with power and money, places an unusual order in a luxury restaurant, the whole absurdity of the ruling social system is revealed and the fate of a young, aspiring singer is put at risk.
