Solong i's dopock - Der Senner von der Kaserstatt

Every year, the dairyman and farmer Ernst Steiner from Mühlwald returns to his high alpine pasture, the Kaserstatt, in summer. He follows an old custom: he moves from the lower alpine pasture up to the high alpine pasture with his cattle for several weeks. At over 2000 m he takes advantage of the short vegetation phase, the fresh pastures, mows and brings in the mountain hay.
Up here in the alpine region, alpine life involves a lot of effort, a lot of daily work. The alpine dairyman takes us into the untouched natural and cultivated landscape with the pastures, the mowing fields, the round log buildings of the haymakers and the centuries-old wooden roofs.
Up here, the original working methods still come into their own due to the simplicity of the circumstances. Often the alpine dairyman does not see a single person for weeks, there is no electricity, there is no road up the mountain, the kerosene lamp or a candle are the only artificial sources of light.
The tranquillity of the untouched landscape, the simplicity and the work of the alpine dairyman, bear witness to a harmonious interplay. On the high alp Kaserstatt you can still find the cultural landscape in its originality. It offers the rare opportunity to experience and document the last working processes of past times. Up here, the work is on the one hand alpine life and at the same time also landscape conservation.
