Little Catholic's big day: The day when the third graders receive Holy Communion for the first time has become a mega-event in Poland. Despite inflation and the crisis, First Communion is celebrated almost as lavishly as a wedding. But there are differences. Ten-year-old Wiktor's family in the rural province of Heiligkreuz still celebrates more traditionally - with lots of meat, vodka, accordion and singing. In the big city of Łódź, on the other hand, Wiktoria's family has rented a fairytale castle - complete with four-course meal and children's animator.
