Cases of abuse in the Catholic Church have been reported for years. The disappointment about the lack of clarification is enormous. More and more fates are coming to light - including that of Thomas O., who lived in a Catholic children's home in the diocese of Speyer. The 63-year-old reports that as a child he experienced abuse thousands of times over, including by high clergy, at sex parties with politicians and nuns who approved and covered up the whole thing. In Speyer, there is said to have been a kind of pimping ring for pedophile priests. A social court has judged O. to be credible.
Together with Stephan Alfter of the Mannheimer Morgen, reporter Dennis Leiffels searches in the report "Abuse in the name of God" for the "foster sons" of the already deceased Cardinal Motzenbäcker, who is accused of multiple abuse. They confront the current vicar general Andreas Sturm about the inadequate educational work of the church. But a cash book kept by the nuns to prove their complicity in the cover-up turns out to be falsified. Contemporary witnesses who had insights into the children's home at the time also deny the accusations. Can the reporters corroborate Thomas O.'s story and locate others who were affected? Were the children in Speyer systematically abused by the priests?
