Brief synopsis
Tina Turner is one of the most successful rock and pop singers in the world. Her records sell millions of copies all over the world and her tours since the mid-1980s regularly set new records. Tina Turner was born as Anna Mae Bullock in Brownsville, Tennessee on November 26, 1939 and grew up in Nutbush with her grandparents due to difficult family circumstances. With her later hit "Nutbush City Limits" she set a monument to this place.
For 26 years, however, it may only taste of success for a short time. This was not least because she was treated almost like a serf by her discoverer, patron and later husband Ike Turner. Only after the separation from Ike and a very clear change in her musical repertoire did she succeed in rising to the pop Olympus.
The documentation shows all phases of their unique success. The 1960s with a special section on the pop classic "River Deep Mountain High" and Tina Turner's first solo single, produced by Phil Spector, the best producer at the time. The "Ike and Tina Turner Revue" with their greatest hits "Proud Mary" and "Nutbush City Limits", written and composed by Tina Turner, was an international live attraction in the 1970s.
The 1980s were the most turbulent time for Tina Turner. She started her solo career under difficult circumstances before she finally had her first international No. 1 hit with "What's Love Got To Do With It" after 26 years of hard work in show business.
Sold out world tours followed. Tina Turner became the attraction of the movie "Mad Max 3 - Jenseits der Donnerkuppel" as an actress and singer. She published her autobiography "Me, Tina. My Life", which also became the template for a feature film. Tina Turner was a superstar of the worldwide entertainment industry. From 2000 on, Tina Turner had more tours on the program. At the end of 2009, on the occasion of her 70th birthday, she announced her final departure from show business.
