Katarzyna (27), a psychology student, is about to start a new phase in her life. She decides that she wants to think about her future outside of her everyday life in Poland. That's why she agrees to help out a friend in a restaurant in the Eifel over the summer. However, working in the gastronomy, and in a foreign language, turns out to be far more challenging than she had imagined.
Over time, the region and its residents begin to open up to Katarzyna. In particular, she finds unexpected confidants in her colleague Bruno (31), a cook in Schauersbach, and Helene (85), who came to the Eifel from Silesia as a little girl. We walk through the place holding the hand of the quiet and self-determined protagonist, looking at the people there through her eyes. She witnesses the structural upheavals of the area and personal fates.
Initiated by this, this change of perspective develops from a mere holiday job into a fundamental question: Can people break out of their current living conditions and lead a happy life abroad?
