As early as the 70s and 80s of the 20th century, networks of Christians within the Protestant Church of the GDR begin to express political criticism on the basis of their faith. Even in the general population, opposition increasingly arises.
Countless groups advocating for peace, justice, human rights, and ecology find refuge in the Protestant church. The work of reverends and youth volunteers of the church, but above all the ethical results of active young Christians and their opposition against ideological indoctrination and militarization embody a considerable contribution to the peaceful revolution.
