Brief synopsis
A family-friendly hike to the Altfasstal near Meransen in the Jochtal-Gitschberg region (Pustertal) designed by Theo Hendrich.
Starting from the parking lot on the western edge of Meransen, a wide hiking trail leads into the Altfasstal valley. At the beginning you cross the forest until the valley opens up and you see a beautiful landscape with flowering meadows and numerous huts. The trail continues slightly uphill until just before the end of the valley and then becomes somewhat steeper via the "Jagersteig". Above the Pranter Stadelhütte, the trail descends briefly to this very hut. There we are expected by the hut host, who leads us briefly through a petting zoo and a colorful and funny smorgasbord. We continue to the Wieser-Schutzhaus (a former AVS refuge), which is located right next to it. This hut also runs its own cheese dairy. The hut host awaits us and will briefly introduce us to cheese production (demo). Afterwards, a gently sloping forest and meadow path leads us back to the starting point. Just before the end of the hike we will take a short break at the "Almkneippweg" to regenerate our feet at the 4 stations.
