Before the Bang

Hundreds injured, cars on fire and a city in shock: A year ago, the G20 summit in Hamburg got completely out of control. How could it have come to this? The documentary "Before the Bang" depicts the days before the explosion of violence in the Hanseatic city.

The film by director Nahuel Lopez lets Hamburg citizens have their say in detail, including many residents who had to suffer directly from the summit and its preparations. In addition, "Zeit" editor-in-chief Giovanni di Lorenzo talks about the global political event. "If you ask me now, I can't understand why there is so much fear in the city," he says before the summit. A huge miscalculation, as would become apparent a short time later.
