Telescopes and seating anchored in concrete with a view of the Frankfurt Airport runway. Wind blows, cars whiz, planes roar. At the back of the viewer a pedestrian bridge spans the A5 motorway. The Frankfurt skyline is within sight. At the bridgehead the runway opens. The take-off and landing of airplanes every half minute attracts thousands. Between five in the morning and eleven in the evening their rhythm choreographs the visitors.
A dystopia – a non-place or a non-place – a utopia? Childlike curiosity, curiosity and wanderlust overshadow the din. Until late into the night, some settle in with folding chairs and camping equipment and wait. The view unites the most diverse visitors and turns them into hunters, gawpers and dreamers.
