Eka and Natia, two inseparable friends, live in Tbilisi, Georgia. It is 1992 and the USSR has collapsed and Georgia must fend for itself. Just fourteen-years-old, the girls experience the ordinary and difficult existence of other girls their age, in the street, at school, with their friends and their families. Confronted by male dominance, they struggle for their freedom with the energy and force of youth. A chronicle of Georgian youth, In Bloom is based on the memories of Nana Ekvtimishvili, who co-directed the film with Simon Gross. Cinemtatography is by Oleg Mutu, who regularly works with Cristian Mungiu and Sergei Loznitsa. The film immerses us in the past of a ravaged country.
