Philipp Basener is a German theatre and film actor, drag artist and costume designer. After receiving his acting degree from Otto-Falckenberg-Schule in Munich, he has worked at theatres all over Germany including Münchner Kammerspiele, Volkstheater München, Theater Bonn and the State Theatres of Kassel and Cottbus.
Philipp is co-founder of the art collective CHIN CHIN, which combines queer club culture and interdisciplinary performance art. The legendary CHIN CHIN parties are hosted by the collective and take place every few months in Bonn and Cologne. During the shut downs of theatres and culture spaces, Philipp has developed his drag character Mad M. Moustache, who's become well renowned in the drag scene and has led to collaborations with artists worldwide. His works with Swedish artist Märta Mattsson were displayed at galleries in Gothenburg, Sweden, Tirana, Albania, Munich, Germany and were shown at the museum of Art & Design in New York City.
As the creative director for the magazine of the German theatre union GDBA, Philipp designed the looks for photos, posters and covers for 2021/22 season's editions.
In seasons 2021/22 and 2022/23 Philipp designed the costumes for the world premiere of IM WALD (da sind) at Comedia Theatre in Cologne, for THE GREAT GATSBY, TWO PENNY OPERA and ROMEO & JULIET at the State Theatre of Cottbus. This Season he will create costume & stage designs at Stadttheater Gießen, Staatstheater Cottbus and Staatstheater Augsburg. www.philippbasener.com
