Lisa van Brakel was born in Düsseldorf, Germany, in 1988 and grew up in the Rhineland. From a young age, extraordinary stories and characters - first in literature then on screen - fascinated and ultimately inspired her to get her Masters degree in theater, film and media studies from the University of Cologne (Germany), from Duquesne University (Pittsburgh, USA), and her Media and Fine Art Diploma from The Academy of Media Arts Cologne (KHM). While still a student, she developed and co-wrote her first television feature film for the television series "Kommissar Laim" and wrote the series final for the television comedy series "Im Knast". Lisa then started focusing her work on high-end series for streaming services, for example the drama mystery series "Souls" (created by Alex Eslam). She co-wrote the concept, the pilot and two more episodes with Alex Eslam and was the script editor for the remaining five. "Souls" premiered at the Cannes International Series Festival (CannesSeries) in April 2022 and won Best Screenplay and Best Music.
