Education | Jonatan Schwenk, born in Germany in 1987, is an independent animation filmmaker and sound designer currently based in Berlin. A graduate of the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Offenbach and former guest student at the Kunsthochschule Kassel, he focuses on combining different animation techniques into hybrid forms. His graduation film "Zoon” premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival and has since been screened at around 130 festivals. His animated short film "Sog” received nearly 40 awards and mentions (including the Annecy Cristal for a graduation film) and was screened at renowned film festivals around the world, including Animafest Zagreb, SXSW, Palm Springs ShortFest, Annecy, Ottawa and Flickerfest, where it qualified for the Academy Awards. His work as an animator and sound designer has been selected twice for the Berlinale. In 2020, he was selected as a "Berlinale Talent”. Schwenk also did the sound design for Florian Maubach’s Cops & Robbers, winner of the German Short Film Award in 2018, as well as for Merlin Flügel’s Rules of Play, winner of a Cristal at Annecy in 2019. In April 2022, Schwenk participated in the prestigious NEF International Residency for Animated Film in Fontevraud, France. |
